2R settings

This document explains 2R (2 round tournament) pairing settings:

- You will play 2 rounds
- Most likely you will get each color either white first and then black, or black first and then white.
- Pairing is 1-2 pairing. System/TD will pair you to the closest opponent up/down.
- Pairing is fixed when we start the tournament.
- First color will be "coin toss" (randomly pick by first player).
- It prefers not to match players with 400 rating difference. See 3rd example.

Here an example. Four players registered 1,2,3,4. We do coin toss, first player gets white.

Round 1:
1 (white) vs 2 (black)
4 (white) vs 3 (black)

Regardless the score on round 1, this is the pairing for round 2:

Round 2
3 (white) vs 1 (black)
2 (white) vs 4 (black)

Here another example. Six players registered 1,2,3,4. We do coin toss, first player gets white.

Round 1:
1 (white) vs 2 (black)
4 (white) vs 3 (black)
5 (white) vs 6 (black)
Alternatif One Round 2:
3 (white) vs 1 (black)
2 (white) vs 5 (black)
6 (white) vs 4 (black)
Alternatif Two Round 2:
6 (white) vs 1 (black)
2 (white) vs 4 (black)
3 (white) vs 5 (black)
Most likely, system will pick alternative One because in alternative two, rating different between 6 vs 1 could be too high in alternative Two.

There is a case where we can't pair if rating difference is too high (400 or more). Here the 3rd example:

Four players registered:
1. rating 2200
2. rating 2100
3. rating 1800
4. rating 1750

For this case, because there is a 400 gap (2200-1800 = 400), so pairing will be:
1 vs 2, double games (coin toss who will play white first)
3 vs 4, double games (coin toss who will play white first)

How do we pair with 8,10,12,14,16 players? It will be divided by 2-4-6 players group.

What if odd number of players registered? Organizer will try to find filler to make it even.

Can someone take a bye? Or only play one round only? Yes, but you have to plan it. One day before tournament, you can request a bye round 1, or bye round 2. Entry fee is still the same.

Is it possible a player gets 2 blacks in a row, or 2 whites in a row? Yes, very rare because the only case is if 2 players leaving the tournament unexpected, and we have to modify the pairing where the remaining players have played same color. In this case highest score player will switch color. If same score, high rating will switch color.

Please do not take a bye right before tournament starts or leaving the tournament for second round. Of course if there is an emergency situation, it is acceptable. If bye(s) are planned, organizer will try to find filler for the tournament, so everyone still get 2 rounds with each color on each round. If you change plan, please notify the organizer immediately so we can find alternative player. No refund on entry fee if you change your plan, but you still can transfer to alternative player to play your spot.

If you have question on pairing, please let organizer knows.
